Gandhi Jayanti 2021: When, why and how it is celebrated
NEW DELHI: Every year Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated across the nation with great fervour to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and celebrate his contribution towards the nation. This year, different educational institutions, government departments, and NGOs are celebrating the birth anniversary of MK Gandhi. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, some are organizing webinars and virtual events. In many places where the restrictions have been lifted, the day is celebrated by organizing painting competitions, essay writing, cleanliness drive, marathon run etc.

Here is how Gandhi Jayanti 2021 is being celebrated across the nation.
The ministry of youth affairs and sports is organizing FIT India Freedom Run 2.0 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
“This Gandhi Jayanti, run with your family and friends in the FIT INDIA Plog Run. Lets make India more FIT & Clean than ever before,” tweeted the Minister of State (Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, promoting the run.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur had also tweeted about the run on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. “Did you go for a run today? The weekend is around the corner; join us as we target the 10 crore mark,” tweeted Thakur.

To commemorate the day, and to instill the values and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, a virtual live assembly was organized by students of Ahlcon Public.

Government Degree College, Dudu Basant Garh organized an inter-college essay writing competition on the topic "Quit India Movement" to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti.

Civic body schools in Delhi will be organizing a cleanliness fortnight to mark Gandhi Jayanti. To commemorate the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a total of 700 schools of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, 582 schools of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation and 350 schools of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation will be participating in the sanitation drive on October 2.
