A testament to the revolutionary power of non-violence, his birth anniversary is also celebrated as the International Day of Non-violence.

His philosophy made a widespread impact across the world by teaching unity and harmony as an alternative to armed rebellion. On this occasion, President Droupadi Murmu and prime minister Narendra Modi will pay homage at Raj Ghat, the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi. The government will also observe 'Ek Tareekh, Ek ghanta, Ek Sath'—a mega cleanliness drive as part of the Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva 2023 on October 1.
