GATE 2021: Over 14000 students registered from arts and commerce background

Check NowNEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has closed the registration process for GATE 2021 on October 7 (with regular fees) and October 14 (with late fees). Total 8.82 lakh candidates registered for the entrance examination including 2.9 lakh female candidates. The rise in the number of applications as compared to last year can be attributed to the eligibility of students from arts and commerce background to apply for GATE and be eligible for Masters, PhDs or recruitment process.

According to the authorities over 14000 students who belong to the arts and commerce background have applied for GATE 2021. 14,916 students for the humanities branch have been registered and 14,804 registrations have been seen for environmental science. As per IIT, the registrations, the statistics for the new subjects are much higher than the existing nine subjects. While there was some drop in the applications, Mechanical and Civil engineering still remained the top choices for GATE 2021. IIT Bombay has also seen a rise in the number of girl candidates i.e., 3% more than the previous year.
Paper Combination for GATE 2021
IIT Bombay has also introduced the facility to appear for more than one paper (but only in a specific set of combinations). This new feature has raised the number of registrations for lesser popular papers such as Engineering Sciences (XE) and Instrumentation Engineering (IN). The number of registrations for XE is 28,300 for 2021 while the previous year, it was 4790. Similarly, for IN, the number of registrations for the present session has increased by 130%.
