According to the guidelines, only candidates with a benchmark disability above 40 percent and physical limitation in writing the exam will be allowed a scribe. In case other candidates under the category wish to avail this facility they must submit a certificate in accordance to the Appendix-A in the GATE 2023 information brochure. The provision of a scribe for persons in the category of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected) and cerebral palsy will be allowed on advance request only.

In addition to this, candidates with dyslexia will also be provided with a scribe after submitting a proper dyslexic certificate to the authorities. PwD or dyslexic candidates, with disabilities that limits their speed of writing, who do not want to opt for a scribe facility might be considered for an extra time of one hour to complete their exam, as per guidelines.
In case of candidates that are visually challenged, they will be able to contact the GATE institute representative for a 'magnified question paper' while appearing for the GATE 2023 examination. The authorities have reminded candidates that requesting for a scribe on-spot on the day of examination will not be entertained.
According to official PwD guidelines, the scribe should not be more than minimum qualification criteria for the GATE examination, however, they are required to have completed senior secondary education or above. In case, the candidate brings their scribe, the qualification of the scribe is required to be one stop below the candidate.
