NEW DELHI: Gujarat University has stayed the admission process of three-year LLB programme as per the orders of Gujarat high court. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has cancelled the recognition of eight government grant-in-aid law colleges. In this regard, the HC had stayed the admission process in these universities till June 28.

“Admission process of Three Years’ LLB Programme is stayed as per order of the Hon’ble High Court of Gujarat,” the Gujarat University informed.

The BCI removed them from the list of recognized law colleges without conducting mandatory inspections, the petition filed by three law colleges stated, as per the Live Law report.

The petitioners also said that the BCI prescribes Rs 3 lakh rupees as inspection fees and 50,000 for application and that it becomes difficult for grant-in-aid colleges to apply for one to two years, the report said.

However, the colleges regularly update student enrolment details to the BCI and annually pay a web registration fee of Rs 100 per student, the Live Law report stated.

The three Gujarat University grant-in-aid colleges that filed the petition are LA Shah Law College, IM Nanavati Law College, and MN Nanavati Law College.

“It (MN Nanavati Law College) also sought direction against Gujarat University to clarify the admission status of students who would be allotted seats through the Centralized Admission Process, considering its recognition by the BCI,” the report added.
