All schools in Gurugram up to Class 8 closed from May 27-31 as heatwave tightens its grip
Heatwave in Haryana: All classes from Balvatika to Classes 8 will be suspended till May 31 due to heatwave. Additionally, summer vacation will start from June 1.

NEW DELHI: The Haryana government has ordered all government, government-aided and private schools in Gurugram to shut schools from May 27 to May 31 due to the extreme heatwave. Classes from Balvatika to Class 8 will be suspended for four days starting tomorrow.
“In compliance with the instructions issued by the Director, Secondary Education Haryana, Panchkula vide letter No. SPL5/19-2024 dated 19.05.2024, in view of the extreme heat in district Gurugram, holiday is declared for all government/ semi-government, private schools from Balvatika to Class VIII from 27.05.2024 to 31.05.2024,” the official order read.
Summer vacations for all schools will begin from June 1 to June 30 and classes will resume on July 1. The Haryana government had also revised the school timings recently. Classes for the single shift began at 7 am and continued till noon. For double-shift, the first shift started at 7 am to 11.30 am and second shift from 11.45 am to 4.15 pm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recently issued a red alert for a heatwave in several northern states including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab Gujarat, Rajasthan until May 28. Additionally, the department issued a “severe heatwave” alert for Delhi and Haryana.
Parents and students were raising concerns over non-closure of schools despite the weather department alerting the states about the rise in temperature. However, the district commissioner has issued an order today at 8 pm ordering all schools to remain closed till this month-end.
All government and private pre-primary and primary schools in Haryana’s Una district were also shut till May 25 due to heatwave. Classes are expected to resume from Monday.
