NEW DELHI: Dinesh Prasad Saklani, professor at the department of history, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna (HNB) Garhwal University, Srinagar has been appointed the new director of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

“The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal for the appointment of Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Professor, Department of History, Birla Campus, HNB) Garhwal University as director, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), on deputation basis”, said a statement from the ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions.

Saklani is a professor at the department of history, ancient Indian history, culture and archaeology, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar. He was awarded PhD in History in the year 1996 from the HNB Garhwal University. He has previously served as the nodal officer for National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) and as convenor of the central purchase committee and library committee. He is also the campus director since 2017.

The NCERT is an autonomous body that assists the central government and state governments in policymaking related to school education. It conducts research in the field of school education and also prepared model textbooks, study materials, and organises training for teachers
