NEW DELHI: Veditha Reddy has been appointed as the new director of education in Delhi. The announcement comes as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle wherein the lieutenant governor V K Saxena declared transfers and postings of over 30 Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officers, filling up vacancies in the departments of health, education, among others.

The transfers and postings were made hours after the union ministry of home affairs (MHA) moved several IAS officers of Arunachal, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. RN Sharma who held additional charge of education director besides serving as labour commissioner has been transferred to Jammu and Kashmir.

Background wave

Apart from Reddy, two other female officers, 2016-batch Nazuk Kumar and 2020-batch Shreya Singhal, will join the education department as additional directors, respectively. Kumar has replaced IAS Patil Pranjal Lahensingh (AGMUT 2017).

The transfers and postings were carried out following a recent meeting of the National Civil Services Authority (NCCSA), led by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. This decision, made through a circular, came after a lengthy wait for the three-member panel's meeting, which also includes the chief secretary and divisional commissioner. The delay was attributed to various factors, including the six-month imprisonment of former CM Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi’s Directorate of Education (DoE), which looks after the school education system, had been running without a full-time director for almost a year. The last education director Himanshu Gupta was appointed as the secretary of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in December last year.
