IIM Lucknow offers PG programme in sustainable management

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM Lucknow) is offering a post graduate programme in sustainable management (PGP-SM) that aims to develop management professionals with a comprehensive view on economic, social, and environmental challenges.

In addition to general management courses, the PGP-SM curriculum offers specialised courses in sustainable management principles, sustainability measurement and reporting, systems thinking, lifecycle management, stakeholder management, and public policy.

The programme facilitates future leaders to understand the ever-changing and dynamic nature of these sustainability problems as well as develop integrated, holistic approaches to deal with environmental issues.

Speaking on the importance for a post graduate programme in sustainable management, Archana Shukla, director, IIM Lucknow, stated that this programme aspires to develop managers with evolved awareness and abilities to contribute to a sustainable society.

Speaking on the future job prospects, Ashish Aggarwal, chairman, PGP-SM, IIM Lucknow, said "Top consulting firms like McKinsey, Accenture, E&Y, KPMG, and PWC, along with other major companies, hire our students with an average salary of Rs. 30 lakhs per annum, and we have a 100% placement record."

SM programme key objectives

• The programme's key objectives include:
• To develop an awareness of contemporary difficulties that businesses face in the twenty-first century, with a focus on the environment
• To develop responsible leadership abilities targeted for responding to sustainability issues.
• Providing relevant skill sets to combine principles of sustainability and responsible management practises
• To impart knowledge and skills in key business functional areas
• Encouraging entrepreneurial talents and developing a global perspective
• To help participants to become catalysts for change in the field of sustainable management.

The key features of PGP-SM are as follows:

• Case study methodology: PGP-SM course curriculum emphasises learning through case study discussions, presentations, and role play, resulting in an interactive learning environment inside classes.

• International immersion programme: In the second year of the programme, students participate in a global environment. Students are exposed to global pioneers from world-class colleges such as Copenhagen, Denmark's Business School, Sweden's Linnaeus University, and the Netherlands' Maastricht University. Excursions to IKEA, VOLVO, Electrolux, are also arranged for the students.
