IIMC to introduce Bengali Journalism in Dhenkanal Campus

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 31: At a two-day national seminar organised on the state of Indian Journalism and Training, Indian Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) announced that a niche course in Bengali Journalism will be introduced at its Dhenkanal Campus.
The seminar focused on key issues that concern the consumption and diverse use of Indian languages across mediums. Talking about the introduction of new course, K. G. Suresh, Director General, IIMC said, “I think people are more interested to read watch and hear news in their own language. This is mainly because of the growing literacy rate in our country as people are more aware and conscious of their language. At IIMC, we are diversifying and promoting Language Journalism at our Regional campuses, with Malayalam, Odiya, Marathi, Urdu and Sanskrit Journalism and now we will be introducing Bengali journalism to our Dhenkanal Campus.”
The chief guest of the seminar was Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. He stressed on how newspapers still play a crucial role in this world of social media. People still have faith on the newspapers, regional newspapers are undoubtedly driving the growth story for print media. Other personalities in the seminar included Prof Hemant Joshi. Padma Shri Alok Mehta, former President of The Editor’s guild of India. Prof BP Sanjay, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, Prof Vijay Parmar, Dean Academic IIMC, Prof Mrinal Chatterjee, Regional Director, IIMC Dhenkanal Campus.
A plenary session on the theme ‘Idea of Journalism in Indian Languages’ was also chaired by Prof. Mrinal Chatterjee, where they introspected the scope of journalism in Indian Languages and the difficulties that regional languages face in the world of global media that functions majorly in English language.
The panel included participants from the field of Journalism, namely, Alok Mehta, former Editor Outlook Hindi, Jayanto Ghoshal, Editor, Anand Bazaar Patrika, Pradip Phanjoubam, editor, Imphal Free Press, Shahid iddiqui, Chief Editor, Nayi Duniya and Vijay Satokar, Regional Director, IIMC Amravati Campus.
