IIT Bombay Hostel Fire: Five hospitalised after cylinder gas leak, condition stable

IIT Bombay Hostel Fire: The five have been identified as Ansh Ahirwar, 12, Tahjib Aalam, 9, Ishwar Singh, 37, Shivkumar Singh, 34, and Anilkumar Yadav, 23.
A gas leak from a cylinder pipe has triggered a flare-up at hostel number 6 on the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay campus in Powai. Five persons, including two children, have been injured due to the fire, reports suggest.
According to information provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the incident was reported at around 10:25 pm from hostel number 6.
The injured were taken to BMC-run Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, an official said. Four of them were later shifted to civic body-run Kasturba Hospital at Chinchpokli. One remains admitted to Rajawadi Hospital.
IIT Bombay has more than 15 residential hostels on its Powai campus in Mumbai, for both boys and girls.
Five injured due to blaze
The five have been identified as Ansh Ahirwar, 12, Tahjib Aalam, 9, Ishwar Singh, 37, Shivkumar Singh, 34 and Anilkumar Yadav, 23.
Ishwar Singh remains admitted at Rajawadi Hospital, while the other four, Ahirwar, Aalam, Shivkumar Singh and Yadav, have been transferred to Kasturba Hospital. However, hospital authorities said all five are in stable condition.
Police personnel and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation staffers were mobilised following the incident. Further details about the incident are awaited, officials said. With inputs from PTI
