IIT Delhi establishes ‘Manish Singhal Chair’ to promote teaching, research in smart textiles

Download NowNEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has established ‘Manish Singhal Chair’ in collaboration with its BTech alumnus Manish Singhal to promote teaching and research in the department of textile and fibre engineering focusing on smart textiles.

Manish Singhal is currently the managing director of KG Petrochem Ltd, a Jaipur-based company manufacturing textiles, garments, artificial leathers, and polymers, both nationally and internationally.
RS Rengasamy who heads textile and fibre engineering, IIT Delhi, said: “The establishment of ‘Manish Singhal Chair’ will facilitate wider and deeper interactions between the industry, faculty and students and promote ‘Smart Textiles’ in the country”.
Smart textiles is “an emerging area that is taking applications of textiles to new territories of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), medicine, defence, space, and manufacturing.”

A professor of the textile and fibre engineering department stated that he’s glad to know that Manish Singhal has contributed towards promoting research in the field of smart textiles. He said that various faculty members have been working for years in this area.
“IIT Delhi continues to draw a significant and growing interest by its alumni on contributing towards research advancement at the Institute, in technological and social fields like Artificial Intelligence, Public Policy, Decision Sciences, Data Analytics, etc.,” said a statement by IIT Delhi.
