IIT Delhi holds 54th convocation, 2,357 students get degrees

NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi organised its 54th annual convocation today. 2,357 students were awarded degrees and diplomas during the IIT Delhi convocation 2023. Gagandeep Kang, a virologist and director of Enterics, Diagnostics, Genomics and Epidemiology-Global Health, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USA, was the chief guest.

R Chidambaram, chairperson of Board of Governors, IIT Delhi; Rangan Banerjee, director; Senators; senior functionaries of the Institute; faculty members; staff; students; and their parents were present in the Dogra Hall of the Institute, the venue for the convocation ceremony.

At the IIT Delhi convocation ceremony, Archit Babuna, BTech in Computer Science and Engineering, was awarded the President’s Gold Medal; Aditya Vimal, BTech in Civil Engineering, received the Director’s Gold Medal. Dibya Jyoti Sarangi, MTech in Applied Optics, was awarded the Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma (Former President of India) Gold Medal.

Three students, namely Ashitha Devi Pattabi, MS (R) in Materials Science and Engineering; Narayani Bhatia, MS (R) in Electrical Engineering; and Mahajan Swapnil Dashrath (Meenal), MTech in Polymer Science and Technology, received the Prefect Ten Gold Medal.

The first batch of MTech in Electric Mobility, Interdisciplinary MTech in Cyber Security, Masters in Public Policy, Master of Science in Research (MSR) in Materials Science and Engineering and Joint PhD programme with the University of Queensland, Australia, were awarded their degrees.

Addressing the graduating students, chief guest Gagandeep Kang said: “Your alma mater is a special place. IIT Delhi’s vision is to contribute to India and the world through excellence in scientific and technical education and research, to be a source of pride for all Indians and be a resource for society. In other words, you are called on to excel and to serve.”
