IIT Delhi, Indian Air Force collaborate to accelerate indigenisation efforts

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi signed an agreement with the Indian Air Force (IAF) with the objective of supporting the IAF’s indigenisation efforts for achieving self-reliance.
IIT Delhi will provide cooperation and consultancy, duly supported by research, for feasibility studies and prototype development in weapon systems. The key focus of IAF includes technology development and finding indigenous solutions towards sustenance of various weapon systems.
“IIT Delhi’s contributions is expected to further accelerate the efforts by Base Repair Depots (BRDs) of Maintenance Command IAF, towards the IAF achieving sustenance capability, obsolescence management, indigenisation and achieving self-reliance,” read the press release.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) funded IIT Delhi Joint Advanced Technology Center was formed in 2017. The faculty members, staff and PhD students at the research center are working on multiple defence projects in the center. This new agreement with the air force is expected to boost these ongoing projects.
IIT Delhi has recently collaborated with Oppo India to introduce a scholarship programme called the ‘Genius programme’ for sponsoring academic expenses of engineering students of the institute. It is. Oppo launched the programme to provide scholarship support to outperforming students pursuing BTech courses in the premier institutes, beginning with IIT Delhi.
Construction Week India has recently awarded IIT Delhi Research and Innovation Park with the Facade Project of the Year Award 2021. The park includes utility services, restaurants, ATMs, convention centres and parking spaces.
