NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) today organised the fourth edition of Industry Day 2022. K Ananth Krishnan, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) inaugurated the daylong event showcasing over 70 cutting-edge technologies developed by IIT Delhi researchers.

IIT Delhi Industry Day 2022 will also be showcasing over 150 industry-relevant concept posters created by the students. The event will be focusing on four themes in line with India's commitment to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)- healthcare, electric vehicles, communication technologies, clean energy and environment.

Hand exoskeleton for paralytics, wearable sensors for real-time health monitoring, AI-based evaluation system, development of rapid antigen detection kit for COVID-19, advanced ballistics for high energy defeat, THRED (THz Handheld Remote Explosive Detector) are among the 82 technologies developed by IIT Delhi.

Industry Day 2022

Here’s a list of 5 technologies showcased at the IIT Delhi’s Industry Day 2022 and their features.

THRED (THz Handheld Remote Explosive Detector) -The THRED Platform is a non-contact, non-destructive, real-time detection system based on broadband terahertz radiation with 3 subsystems. These three subsystems are commercial time-domain THz spectrometer, an indigenously designed and fabricated lightweight THz handheld scanner and a 10-meter-long umbilical carrying optical fiber and electrical cords.

THRED Platform was selected as one of the signature products of DRDO Industry Academia-Centre of Excellence, IIT Delhi that was demonstrated in DefExpo 2022 at Gandhinagar from October 18 to 22, 2022.

Hand exoskeleton for paralytics - In an effort to help patients become more independent in their activities of daily living, an exoskeleton was developed to perform robotic assisted movement of wrist and fingers joint. “It is triggered by residual muscle effort by the affected hand of the patients, affected by neuro-muscular disorders such as stroke, cerebral palsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury etc. It also gives objective quantifiable feedback to patient on the amount of effort made by them.”

Wearable sensors for real-time health monitoring - The wearable sensors are simple parallel plate structures that can be easily sewed onto any textile substrate. These sensors can detect any anomalies in body temperature by wearing them as a wristband. Individual sensitivities of these sensors, such as strain, pressure, bend, and temperature, will be examined to evaluate performance. Its signals can be simply translated, and transferred via Bluetooth to a readable form for any app, the institute explained.

A probe-free RT-PCR assay for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 is the first RT-PCR for COVID-19 from an academic institute approved by Indian Council of Medical Research/Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (ICMR/CDSCO). The IIT Delhi team identified unique regions (short stretches of RNA sequences) in the COVID-19/ SARS COV-2 genome. These regions are not present in other human coronaviruses providing an opportunity to specifically detect COVID-19.

AI-based skills evaluation - IIT Delhi designed a novel simulator for neuro-endoscopy with AI-based automated skills evaluation framework to support the trainees and evaluators. The trainer has been validated by numerous neurosurgeons and found to be an effective tool for skills training. The trainer includes an auxiliary camera to record the performed activity. The recorded data is analyzed using deep learning model based on rank-loss for automatic skills evaluation, IIT Delhi said.
