IIT JAM 2027 brochure out; IIT Kharagpur revises registration date to September 12

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has revised the registration dates for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027. According to the latest update on the official JAM website, the registration will begin on September 12. The examination will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode on February 14, 2027, in two sessions, and scores will be used for admission to postgraduate programmes in the 23 IITs and several other participating institutes for the academic year 2027-28.

Candidates will have to register through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) . The application process requires candidates to provide their name, valid email ID and active mobile number and create a password. After registration, an enrollment ID and OTP will be sent to the registered email address and mobile number.

JAM 2027 will be conducted for Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA), Mathematical Statistics (MS) and Physics (PH). Through JOAPS, candidates can submit the application form; upload the required documents, photograph, and signature, pay the examination fee and track the status of their application.

JAM 2027 schedule

The examination will be conducted in two sessions, with each paper having a duration of three hours.

A candidate can appear for one or two test papers. Those opting for two papers can choose only papers scheduled in different sessions.

JAM 2027 eligibility criteria, application fee

Candidates who have completed their undergraduate degree or will appear in the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2027 are eligible to appear for JAM 2027. However, qualifying for JAM does not by itself guarantee admission. For admission, the undergraduate programme must have been completed before the admission date specified by the respective admitting institute, and candidates must submit documents as proof of meeting the required qualification within the prescribed timeline.

JAM 2027 question paper pattern

The JAM 2027 question paper will contain 60 questions carrying 100 marks. The paper will be divided into three compulsory sections:

• Section A: 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
• Section B: 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)
• Section C: 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions

MCQs will carry negative marking. For a wrong answer, one-third of the marks will be deducted for a one-mark question and two-thirds of the marks for a two-mark question. MSQs and NAT questions will have no negative marking.

Section A consists of 10 one-mark and 20 two-mark multiple choice questions. Section B has 10 two-mark questions, while Section C contains 10 one-mark and 10 two-mark questions

JAM 2027 exam centres

The examination will be conducted in around 114 cities across India. Candidates have to provide their first, second and third choices of examination cities while applying. The three choices must be from the same examination zone. An alternative city may be allotted if a preferred city cannot be assigned for operational reasons.

JAM scores will be used for admission to postgraduate programmes across 23 IITs. The brochure states that there are around 3,000 seats in postgraduate programmes at the 23 IITs for the 2027-28 academic year. Scores will also be used for admission to more than 2,000 postgraduate seats at result-sharing institutes, including IISc, NITs, CFTIs, DIAT, IIEST Shibpur, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, IIPE, JNCASR and SLIET, among others.

The brochure mentions a maximum of four admission rounds, with a possible additional round depending on the number of vacant seats. Candidates offered a seat can accept it as final, accept it while opting for an upgrade to a programme higher in their preference list, or reject the offer and exit the admission process.
