IIT Kanpur, BISAG-N collaborate for educational content delivery, disaster management using D2M technology

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), have signed an agreement. This collaboration focuses on the use of Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) technology to enhance educational content distribution and deliver disaster management and public safety alerts. IIT Kanpur, as a key knowledge partner in the D2M initiative, will lead technological innovation in this area.

The agreement was signed by Manindra Agrawal, director of IIT Kanpur, and TP Singh, director general of BISAG-N, in the presence of distinguished guests and industry leaders. Among the notable attendees were Parag Naik, executive vice president of Tejas Networks; Mohd Kasim, a member of the UGC committee on educational media; and Prashant Maru, associate vice president of Tejas Networks.

Expand D2M applications

As per the official press release, this strategic partnership will open doors for collaboration, not only in the fields of education and public safety but also in exploring new technological advancements to further expand the applications of D2M technology for a range of public needs.

Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur ,emphasised D2M technology's revolutionary potential for India, saying, “In a diverse and geographically vast country like India, D2M technology can bridge the digital divide by providing equitable access to education. This innovation has the potential to reach every corner of the nation, bringing quality educational content directly to mobile devices.”

D2M for educational and emergency use

TP Singh, director general of BISAG-N, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, adding, “BISAG-N has always been at the forefront of adopting emerging technologies to further the cause of education and public welfare. D2M holds immense promise in revolutionizing the way educational content is disseminated and in ensuring the rapid delivery of vital information during emergencies. We assure that BISAG will extend full support to ensure its implementation as soon as possible.”

Deliver high-quality educational content

Parag Naik highlighted the collaboration between Saankhya Labs, now merged with Tejas Networks, and IIT Kanpur in the early development of D2M technology. He discussed the ongoing trials of D2M in Delhi and its device ecosystem, emphasizing that its deployment will significantly enhance UGC's ability to deliver high-quality educational content to students, educators, and the public. "This technology has the potential to revolutionize digital education in India," he remarked.
