IITK Tyre Park: The tyre park project created in partnership with De’Dzines is environment friendly and is located at the Kargil Park, Motijheel.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has made an enclosure at a park consisting of artistic structures made out of burnt tyres. The tyre park has been built by IITK by collaborating with De’Dzines, a manufacturer of recycled rubber furniture. The project is environment friendly and is located at the Kargil Park, Motijheel.
The enclosure was inaugurated by Abhay Karandikar, director of IIT Kanpur on May 2. “At IIT Kanpur, we strive towards creating solutions that are sustainable and good for the environment; this partnership with De’Dzines is a definitive step in that direction. I am impressed with the ingenuity and creative thinking that this talented team brings on board, which is evident in the incredible designs that they have created. I am confident that the students, faculty and visitors will appreciate this effort and the Tyre Park will soon become the talk of the town,” he said.

According to a statement from IIT Kanpur, used tyres can be made into different items such as furniture, planter, play equipment, sculptures, bags, and shoes among others. Members of De’Dzines approached IIT Kanpur whose researchers are working on methods for better material usage, coating and finishing.
"According to a recent study, more than 40 % of used tyres are burnt besides being disposed of in the landfill. This insight led to the genesis of De’Dzines that works with the single-minded objective of repurposing old used or burnt tyres," said the statement from the institute .
