IIT Kanpur organises training programme on 'Advanced Characterization Technique'

During the seven-day hands-on training programme on “Advanced Characterization Techniques," participants received lab demonstrations, insightful lectures, detailed discussions and interactive sessions.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur conducted a seven-day hands-on training programme on “Advanced Characterization Techniques" from January 16 to January 22, 2023. The programme aimed at helping PhD scholars and faculty of tier 2 and tier 3 universities enhance their knowledge of research and development, through hands-on training on state-of-the-art equipment available at IIT Kanpur.

It was part of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) sponsored Synergistic Training Program Utilizing the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure (STUTI) and was organized in coordination with Amity University. During the seven days of training, participants received lab demonstrations, insightful lectures, detailed discussions and interactive sessions.

In the inauguration ceremony, Professor A R Harish, Dean of Research and Development, IIT Kanpur said, "This programme would help the participants to get introduced to the sophisticated scientific instruments. All the participants should try to benefit as much as possible from the opportunity by bringing all their queries. I hope they get inspired and share the acquired knowledge at their respective institutions”.

Highlighting the significance of the programme, Dr A Chakraborty, Deputy Director General, Amity Foundations for Science Technology and Innovation Alliance added, "This programme would enable the participants to be competitive and stand shoulder to shoulder with the scientists from different parts of the world. They should look to share whatever they learn here at their home institutions".

Professor B V Rathish Kumar, Head Centre for Continuing Education, IIT Kanpur, and Professor Soumik Mukhopadhyay, Department of Physics emphasized, "The participants were given a platform to learn from each other as collaborative learning is the key to academic success. They learnt different experimental techniques, but they should try and get to know the underlying theoretical concept behind these techniques as well."

At the end of the programme, Professor Harshawardhan Wanare, Head, Department of Physics, IIT Kanpur stated that the students should be creative and do things on their own for better understanding. He also urged participants to learn from their peers to harness the new and emerging areas of science and technology for societal benefits.
