IIT Kanpur installs 10 indigenous oxygen plants in five states

IIT Kanpur start-up incubator has installed oxygen plants in UP, MP, Karnataka, Haryana and Bihar under the initiative of Mission Bharat O2.
NEW DELHI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur’s incubated startup, AIPL (Acquafront Infrastructure) has designed and installed 10 indigenous oxygen plants of 500 and 600 litres per minute (LPM) capacities in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, and Bihar.
“Start-Up Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC) brought together a global team of experts in PSA technology, healthcare products, manufacturing, supply chain and procurement to accelerate the efforts of the AIPL team,” a statement from IIT Kanpur said.
SIIC launched the initiative, Mission Bharat O2 in May 2021 to improve the health infrastructure in India with an aim to promote indigenous manufacturing that matches global standards, as per IIT Kanpur statement.

When the first wave of COVID-19 hit India, SIIC team developed an ICU ventilator in 90 days and created N-95 grade Swasa mask. Now, AIPL has designed and installed 10 oxygen plants based on pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology.
“Mission Bharat O2 is one more step towards the larger vision of SIIC to develop a self-sustainable healthcare ecosystem in India,” the IIT Kanpur statement further said.

Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, professor-in-charge, SIIC, said: “When the world was struggling to understand COVID-19 in 2020, the SIIC team delivered critical medical equipment, amidst stringent deadlines, within 90 days! Seeing the nation in crisis, we had to step up again - Mission Bharat O2 is the result of the enthusiasm of the team to serve the nation with technology at par with global standards, yet again.”
