NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) has launched the world’s first MBA in Digital Maritime and Supply Chain programme. The new MBA course has been developed by the departments of management studies, ocean engineering along with industry partner i-maritime Consultancy and aims to upskill global working professionals in maritime trade and supply chain management. Applications are already open and the first batch is commencing in September this year.

Students with a bachelor’s degree with at least 60 percent marks and a minimum of two years of full-time work experience are eligible to apply for the MBA programme. The admission process for the new IIT Madras MBA programme includes an online test followed by a personal interview for shortlisted candidates. The fee for the new MBA programme is Rs 9 lakh and can be paid in installments. The institute is offering scholarships which will cover up to 50% of the course fee, and the course is eligible for bank loans.

The IIT Madras MBA programme can be extended to four years. It comprises 900 hours of classroom sessions and project work, making a total of 192 credits. The curriculum of the programme includes six on-campus immersion modules and extensive access to IIT Madras’ learning resources, including the digital maritime library.

During the MBA programme, learners will engage with digital technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and blockchain, enhancing their ability to tackle modern maritime challenges and drive career advancement.

The programme aspects include blended learning, alumni status and lifetime access to IIT Madras’ resources, innovative curriculum, career support with access to institute’s incubation and start-up platform, and global networking.

Highlighting the unique aspects of the MBA programme, professor V Kamakoti, director, IIT Madras, said, “This innovative program is designed to enhance the expertise of professionals and entrepreneurs in navigating the complexities of modern maritime and supply chain industries. Our goal is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how digital technologies can optimize operations and drive strategic growth.”
