IIT Madras launches hybrid BS Management and Data Science

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras's department of management studies (DoMS) has introduced a new Bachelor of Science (BS) in Management and Data Science course in hybrid mode. The new management programme is in addition to IIT Madras' BS Data Science degree, the institute's first offering online.

Class 12 qualified students or diploma holders can apply for BS in management and data science programme by May 31. Eligible candidates can apply for the BS degree programme on the official website, study.iitm.ac.in/mg.

“The graduates of the programme will receive a Bachelor of Science degree from IIT Madras, carrying the same academic recognition as any other degree offered by the institute,” the official IIT Madras press release said.

The BS in Management and Data Science is designed to equip students with business decision-making, quantitative thinking, and data-driven problem-solving, the official IITM press release adds.

Recently, IITM launched a new BS in aeronautics and space technology online programme, open for Class 12 qualified students or diploma holders without IIT-JEE qualification.

The institute had previously launched the BS Data Science programme in hybrid mode for students. The fee for IIT Madras Data Science programme is Rs 4 lakh.

IIT Madras BS Management and Data Science course

BS Management and Data Science programme follows a hybrid learning model and will be delivered through recorded lectures by IIT Madras faculty, so that students can learn at their own pace.

The programme will includes interactive tutorial sessions, case studies, and continuous academic support through online forums. The exam will be conducted on Sundays to accommodate both students and working professionals.

According to the official IIT Madras press release, admissions, placement, and career support will be facilitated through IIT Madras’ Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE). The institute is also engaging with industry partners to offer internships and project-based learning opportunities to improve students’ learning experience.

“IIT Madras aims to create a new generation of professionals equipped with business acumen and analytical expertise to lead data-driven transformation across industries,” the official IIT Madras press release added.

Addressing the new course launch, IIT Madras director V Kamakoti said: “The BS in Management and Data Science reflects IIT Madras’ vision of preparing learners for leadership in a data-driven world. By integrating management education with strong analytical foundations, this programme enables students to make informed, responsible, and impactful decisions across industries, while ensuring flexibility and access at scale.”

After pursuing the new BS Management and Data Science, graduates of the programme can opt for roles such as Business Analyst, Data Scientist, Economist, Business Consultant, Financial Analyst, Supply Chain, Analyst, Operations Manager, Marketing Analyst, and Strategy Consultant.
