IIT Madras partners with HEIs, industry to offer job-focused courses on SWAYAM Plus

NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has partnered with the industry and 5 higher education institutes to offer job-focused courses on the SWAYAM Plus. The collaboration aims to boost job opportunities by providing students with industry-relevant skills.

The educational institutions that signed the agreement with the IIT Madras includes Sathyabama University, Thiagarajar College of Arts, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Sri Venkateswara University and Vinayaka Mission’s Law School.

These institutes will collaborate with the SWAYAM Plus to encourage students to take up industry-relevant courses as part of their academic curriculum, as per the official statement by the IIT Madras. The agreement will help in integrating SWAYAM Plus courses into the curriculum. It will also support the implementation of the courses, including assessments and certification.

The agreements were signed at the IInvenTiv 2025 event at the IIT Madras campus in February and March. Sukanta Majumdar, minister of state for education and development of north eastern region, government of India, along with other participants also took part in the event.

R Sarathi, professor and dean (planning) at IIT Madras and SWAYAM Plus coordinator, said: “The objective of these MoUs is to encourage higher education institutions to embed SWAYAM Plus courses into their semester schedules. Institutions will conduct proctored exams and award academic credits to students upon completing these courses and their assessments.”

Recently, the IIT Madras has also launched a MTech programme in artificial intelligence (AI) for working professionals.

Veranda Learning Solutions and NSE Academy from the education industry have joined hands with the engineering institute to enhance the academic curriculum with industry-focused skills.

IIT Madras, SWAYAM Plus partnership

The initial phase of the collaboration aims at bringing over 2,500 learners to enroll in the course on SWAYAM Plus. The platform will also target 10,000 students from various colleges to take SWAYAM Plus courses for credits.

“The vision is to gradually increase student enrolment in SWAYAM Plus courses, expand adoption across HEIs, and eventually achieve State-wide and nationwide integration of the platform as the primary source for industry-relevant courses with academic credits,” the institute said.

Currently, the SWAYAM Plus platform has 350 courses from over 50 industry players. “These MoUs will help expand course offerings and encourage Higher Education Institutes to integrate them into their academic programs, making SWAYAM Plus the preferred platform for skill-based learning in India,” it added.

Furthermore, the industry partnership will also offer industry-specific skills and employability. “These courses will be made available on SWAYAM Plus, allowing learners to gain practical and career-relevant knowledge,” the institute said.
