IIT Madras revises GATE 2027 brochure; new BT syllabus, two-paper combinations; exam dates unchanged

Check NowIndian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has released the new brochure for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 on the official website of GATE at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. As per the new brochure, there are two major changes in the notification.
The new changes include revision in the syllabus of GATE Biotechnology (BT) and two paper combinations. Applicants are informed that there is no change in exam dates, eligibility and other details.
According to the revised GATE 2027 two-paper combination list, there is expansion in subject combinations for multiple papers. Robotics and Automation (RA) applicants can now opt for CS, DA, EC, EE, IN and ME, replacing the earlier combinations of EE, ME, DA and CS.
Similarly, the Electronics and Communication (EC) paper now includes RA as an additional second-paper option alongside CS, DA, EE, IN and PH. For Instrumentation Engineering (IN), RA has also been added to the existing combinations of BM, EC, EE and ME, giving applicants greater flexibility while choosing their second paper.
GATE 2027: Revised Biotechnology (BT) syllabus
As per the GATE information brochure, some section in the paper has been combined along with additional topics. Now, section 4 and 4 have been combined and become a new section, “fundamentals of biological engineering.” Material/energy balances, thermodynamics & transport processes dropped as standalone topics.
New topics have been added like bayesian statistics, vector calculus (gradient/divergence/curl) in engineering mathematics and deeper metabolism, immunology & microbiology added in general biology. Topics like recombination-based cloning, biosensors, and omics tools added in the recombinant DNA technology and other tools section.

GATE 2027: Exam pattern
As per the GATE 2027 old notification , there will be 30 test papers and each paper will be conducted in English language containing a total of 100 marks. Each question paper will contain the general aptitude (GA) section carrying 15 marks. The other remaining 85 marks will be based on the syllabus of the respective test paper.
