IIT Palakkad, Grid-India to pursue research in power sector

The agreement was signed by director of the IIT Palakkad and chief general manager of the Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre of the Grid-India.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad has entered in a strategic partnership with the Grid Controller of India Limited for pursuing research and academic excellence.
The agreement was signed by professor Seshadri Sekhar, director of the IIT Palakkad, and TR Ganesh, chief general manager of the Southern Regional Load Despatch Centre, of the Grid-India formalising the collaboration.
The IIT said the agreement will pave the way for robust academia-industry synergy, focused on the principles of knowledge exchange and skill enhancement. “It will aim at fostering research initiatives to address critical issues within India's power sector. As this partnership takes shape, it promises to unlock new opportunities and drive innovation in the energy landscape,” the IIT said.

Established in 2015, the IIT Palakkad aims to become a multi-disciplinary institution with 5,000 students by its 10th year, it added. “The Institute recognises collective growth, in collaboration with industry and other academic institutions, as the need of the time and emphasises blue-sky research and directed research as two essential pillars of technology development,” the IIT Palakkad said. It is ranked 69 in the engineering category of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023. It was ranked 68th in NIRF 2022.
The Grid Controller of India Limited (Grid-India), formerly known as Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO), is a wholly owned union government enterprise is responsible of operating the country’s electricity grid through the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) and five (5) Regional Load Despatch Centres (RLDCs).
