IIT Roorkee conducts alumni outreach activity as part of 175th-year celebration

IIT Roorkee 175th year celebration will include academic, cultural, sports, outreach activities by students, faculty, staff and alumni which will go on till November 24.
NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee concluded its alumni outreach event at Gandhinagar on March 27, 2022, as part of its 175th-year celebration which started on November 25, 2021. The IIT Roorkee 175th year celebration will include academic, cultural, sports, outreach activities, which will go on till November 24, 2022.
According to a statement from IIT Roorkee, it is the first time the institute is conducting zonal outreach activities in Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru-Hyderabad with the intention to conduct alumni meet. The programme was an attempt to bring together IIT Roorkee alumni and to celebrate their achievements.

The programme witnessed participation from professor Sudhir Jain, former director of IIT Gandhinagar and incumbent vice-chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University, NM Bijlani, retired IAS officer, Kumud Mukherjee, practising architect, Desh Raj, retired IT commissioner, PK Taneja, retired IAS, who is the present director of the Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management, Sumer Chopra, director of the Institute of Seismology, Gandhinagar, Anupam Ghalot, IPS officer, Amit Prashant, officiating director of IIT Gandhinagar, Sandeep Singh, IPS officer, among others.
Apart from this, CEOs of different companies, faculty members from different institutes, senior scientists from ISRO, Inst of Plasma Research, ONGC, also participated in the event.

“We chose Gandhinagar as our first stop in our plans to celebrate the 175th year of IIT Roorkee in the midst of our alumni. These programs provide us an opportunity to connect with our alumni and share with them all that is happening at IIT Roorkee. We hope to make them feel good that their alma mater is scaling new heights and they can continue to be proud of IIT Roorkee,” said Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, director of IIT Roorkee.
