IITs offering AI courses in India for future-innovators

AI Courses in IIT: 9 IITs including IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Bhilai, offer a BTech degree in artificial intelligence.
NEW DELHI: Artificial Intelligence is the most sought-after field in the present day with IT jobs and engineering programmes centered around it, now that the world is moving towards more advanced technologies. With the invention of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, among others and threat from deepfakes, there is a high demand of AI engineers and BTech courses in AI. And what’s better than an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) offering an AI course?
Known for delivering the top-notch quality of education and the most trending programmes, several IITs offer short or long-term courses in AI, with some partnering it with data science. Notably, IIT Madras which has been ranked the top engineering college in India, based on its position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings also offers a BTech degree in AI.
Aspirants will mostly require a high Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE Advanced) rank in order to become an IITian.
AI courses in IIT
IIT Madras
Founded in 2024, the Department of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras will offer a BTech degree in AI and data analytics. The institute received an endowment of Rs 110 crore from an alumnus Sunil Wadhwani to set up Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI (WSAI). The admissions to this BTech programme were opened at 132 JEE Advanced rank and were closed at 419 last year.
IIT Ropar
The School of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering (AIDE) at IIT Ropar offers a BTech programme in artificial intelligence and data engineering. Students also get a chance to choose a minor in AI.
IIT Bhilai
IIT Bhilai started BTech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) in July 2020 and offers admissions through JEE Advanced exam.
IIT Guwahati
The Mehta Family of School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) at IIT G offers a BTech programme in data science and artificial intelligence.
IIT Kharagpur
Among the oldest IITs, IIT Kharagpur also offers a BTech course in AI. Last year, the JEE Advanced rank at which the institute closed admission to the BTech AI programme was 898 for gender-neutral open category seats.
IIT Gandhinagar
IIT Gandhinagar too offers a BTech degree in AI. 2,309 was the JEE Advanced rank at which the institute closed admission to the undergraduate engineering programme last year for the open category gender-neutral seats.
IIT Hyderabad
The institute closed admission to the BTech programme at a JEE Advanced rank of 875 last year for gender-neutral open category seats.
IIT Jodhpur
IIT Jodhpur offers a four-year BTech in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science programme. Students securing a JEE Advanced rank between 3000 and 4000 will be able to grab a seat in the programme.
IIT Patna
IIT Patna also offers a BTech degree in artificial intelligence and data science and the JEE Advanced cut-off remains in the range of 3500-4500.
