Illinois Tech Mumbai gets UGC approval to offer US Degrees; fall 2026 applications open

The Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) has received the letter of approval (LoA) from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to launch academic operations at its Mumbai campus. This makes Illinois Tech Mumbai the first US university approved to offer US degrees in India.

According to a university statement, the Mumbai campus is part of its long-term effort to expand access to globally recognised U.S. education in India

Illinois Tech Mumbai will begin student enrolment for programmes starting in September 2026. The Mumbai campus will offer undergraduate programmes in computer science, artificial intelligence, business, and engineering, and postgraduate programmes.

Illinois Tech Mumbai fall 2026 admissions open

The university, after UGC approval , has started accepting applications for its inaugural fall 2026 intake. Applications are open at iit.edu/mumbai. According to Mallik Sundharam, vice president, Illinois Institute of Technology, "Illinois Tech Mumbai marks a transformative milestone in global higher education.
