Jamia Millia Islamia organises international webinar on 'E-Literature: Explorations in Literary Creativity'

The virtual conference opened up new avenues for debate on the methodological, epistemological and narratological aspects of E-lit.

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) has recently organised an international virtual conference on ‘E-Literature: Explorations in Literary Creativity’. The webinar was held from January 16 to January 17, 2023.

An impressive line-up of scholars and paper presenters from across India and many parts of the world participated in the webinar. This event deliberated on and also opened up new avenues for debate on the methodological, epistemological and narratological aspects of E-lit. Besides, it aroused the interest and excitement of many E-lit practitioners and scholars all over the world.

The Officiating Head of the Department, Professor Mukesh Ranjan delivered the welcome address and the introductory remarks were made by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Languages, Professor Mohammad Ishaque. The theme of the webinar was introduced by the Convenor, Dr Shimi Moni Doley of the Department of English, JMI.

The keynote address was delivered by Professor Leonardo Flores, ex-President of the Electronic Literature Organization and Chair of the English Department at Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina. Professor Astrid Ensslin, Professor of Digital Cultures and Communication, University of Regensburg, Germany, delivered the valedictory address. She noted the ground-breaking nature of this event which would go a long way in defining the field of Electronic Literature in India in the years to come.

The concluding remarks for the virtual conference were offered by the HOD of the Dept of English, Professor Simi Malhotra. The valedictory speaker, Professor Astrid Ensslin, noted that the presentations at this event were widely diverse in their thematics and most notable was the emphasis on the communitarian aspect of E-lit.
