The top court passed the order in a petition filed by students seeking restoration of JEE Advanced third attempt, which was first introduced and then ‘abruptly’ withdrawn. While the court gave relief to the aggrieved students, it refused to interfere with the board’s decision to withdraw the extra attempt in JEE Advanced 2025 for the academic session 2025-26.
The revised JEE Advanced 2025 information brochure with the exception in eligibility criterion pertaining to number of attempts has been uploaded on the official website, jeeadv.ac.in. Accordingly, such candidates will be eligible to appear for the exam subject to satisfying all other criteria.
Such students will be required to mandatorily upload the following documents to register and appear in JEE Advanced 2025:
Several students dropped out of BTech to join coaching for admission to an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) through the exam, and were left in a lurch with the removal of JEE Advanced 3 attempts.
On November 5, JAB announced an additional attempt, allowing students who passed Class 12 exams in 2023, 2024, and 2025 to appear for the IIT entrance exam. However, on November 18, the board slashed the number of attempts in JEE Advanced to two, restoring the previous JEE Advanced eligibility criteria.
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) will organise the JEE Advanced 2025 exam on May 18. As per the important dates, the JEE Advanced 2025 registration will start on April 23 and the last date to apply for the exam is May 5.
