NEW DELHI: Guramrit Singh from Chandigarh is one of the 44 toppers who secured 100 percentile in JEE Main 2021 exam. He secured 100 percent in JEE Main 2021 February Session. NTA has released the JEE Main result 2021 result session 4 on September 15. Along with the declaration of result, NTA has also released the list of JEE Main toppers. This was his first attempt in JEE Main. He completed his 10th class from St.Xavier’s Chandigarh and 12th class from Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh. Careers360 interacted with him to know his preparation strategy, best books for the JEE exam and others. Careers360: Congratulations to you on getting 100 percentile in JEE Main 2021! What was your reaction upon knowing your JEE score 2021?
Guramrit Singh: I have scored 100 percentile in JEE Mains February attempt, so it was clear that I would be getting AIR-1. After the declaration of JEE Main 2021 result, I thanked God for it.

Careers360: Tell us about yourself and your schooling?
Guramrit Singh: I have passed my 10th class from St.Xavier’s Chandigarh with 97% in ICSE Board. I have passed my 12th class from Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh with 99.2% in CBSE Board

Careers360: What is your percentile score in JEE Main 2021?
Guramrit Singh: I appeared only in the February session of JEE Mains 2021 and got 100 percentile with 300/300 marks in it. My marks in all the three subjects Physics, Chemistry and Maths are 100/100.

Careers360: In how many sessions you appeared for JEE Main 2021?
Guramrit Singh: I appeared only in the February Session.

Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering and in which branch you want to pursue your engineering?
Guramrit Singh: I had interest in Mathematics and Computer Programming from Junior Classes. So I decided to go for engineering in Class 10th. My dream is to get the CSE stream in IIT Bombay.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Please tell us something about your preparation strategy?
Guramrit Singh: I started preparing for JEE Mains from class 10th. I generally used to study for 7 hours a day and used to play for 2 hours in the evening. COVID-19 didn’t have much effect on my preparations.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was conducted completely in computer based mode?
Guramrit Singh: I didn’t face any difficulty as I was already prepared for CBT mode since all the JEE Main mock tests in which I participated were CBT based.

Careers360: Was how to changed your preparation strategy in last few days of JEE Mains 2021. How did you manage preparation for both JEE and boards?
Guramrit Singh: During the last months of JEE Mains preparation I focused on key concepts involved in each chapter and practiced previous year JEE Mains paper.

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Guramrit Singh: I took coaching from Allen Career Institute, Chandigarh. They helped me to manage the study material and motivated me throughout my preparations.

Careers360: How important it is to solve mock tests and sample papers? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?
Guramrit Singh: I gave the JEE Mains mock tests which helped me know my mistakes in any particular chapter. During the last one month, I attempted some past year's papers and it helped me a lot since around 4-5 questions were based on past year’s questions.

Careers360: Are What are the books you referred for your preparations? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for JEE Main and Class XII?
Guramrit Singh: I studied mainly NCERT for Chemistry. For physics my teacher recommended HC Verma. I regularly solve study material from my coaching.

Careers360: Did you face any problems during the JEE Main examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main exam?
Guramrit Singh: No, I didn’t face any difficulties. I found Maths the easiest and Physics the toughest subject in the JEE Mains paper. The most important thing is to choose less calculative and easy questions out of the 10 questions of Section-B.

Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Main?
Guramrit Singh: I want to mention three major factors behind my success.

  • It’s God’s grace.

  • My parent’s and teacher’s guidance.

  • My consistent hard work .

Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Guramrit Singh: I used to play for 2 hours everyday to reduce stress. My hobbies are playing cricket and football.

Careers360: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Guramrit Singh: My parent’s devotion towards me and my study was the most important factor due to which I worked hard.
