JEE Main 2023 Exam Updates: NTA JEE Mains April 10 paper analysis, answer key, students reactions

JEE Main 2023, the national level engineering entrance exam for admission to BE, BTech courses, consists of 90 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) carrying 300 marks. The question paper has three sections - physics, chemistry and mathematics - with 30 questions each. 

The NTA annually conducts the JEE mains exam every year for admission into National Institutes of technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other colleges. Admissions are offered in undergraduate engineering and architecture courses through the exam. 

Students who took the JEE mains session 2 2023 exam scheduled on April 10 said that the Physics section was easy. They said that much weightage was given to topics such as kinematics, laws of motion, rotational motion, magnetism, SHM and waves, electrostatics, current electricity etc.

JEE mains 2023 exam for session 2 will be held in two shifts on April 11, 2023. The first paper will be conducted from 9 am until 12 pm, while paper 2 will take place from 3 pm until 6 pm. 

Candidates appearing in the day 4 of JEE mains exam 2023 for session 2 must note that they will be required to carry a valid government issued photo ID proof at the exam centre, which includes Aadhar card, PAN card, voter ID, passport etc.

Candidates about to take the JEE mains session 2 exam on April 11, 2023 will be mandatorily required to carry the hard copy of their admit cards and a valid photo ID proof to the exam centre. 

The NTA will observe the fourth day of JEE mains 2023 session 2 exam tomorrow on April 11, 2023. Candidates will be required to report to the exam centres by 7:30 am. 

A total of 8.6 lakh candidates registered in JEE Main 2023 session 1 and the exam saw an all-time high attendance of 95.8 per cent in the January session. 

As per Ramesh Batlish, FIITJEE Noida, "The reporting time for students was 2:20 pm however the exam started sharp at 3:00 pm. Students were not allowed to carry anything inside examination hall except a transparent ball point Pen, Admit Card & Aadhar Card. All guidelines as released by NTA earlier were followed for safety of the exam takers.

Every student was made to go through a sanitizing station where they had to sanitize themselves through a foot press lever. Personal masks were not allowed. Every student was given a fresh surgical mask at entry. Metal detectors were used at the entry gate and no bags or wrist watches were allowed inside. Students reported that entry started as soon as they were screened at the entry point. Time Clock on computer screen was provided inside the examination hall."

NTA has developed an app called the National Test Abhyas to enable candidates to take JEE Main 2023 mock tests for free.

JEE Main 2023 exam paper 1 will be held for physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Each section will carry 100 marks and the exam will be of 300 marks in total. 

JEE Main is conducted for admission to engineering, architecture, and planning programmes offered by NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs whereas JEE Advanced is conducted for admission to IITs. 

NTA has issued JEE Main 2023 admit card for April 11 exam at jeemain.nta.nic.in. 

A candidate's parent said in a tweet, "Dear sir, my application no.for jee main 2 is 230310818643. My jee main 2 exam date is11.4.2023 3 pm onward and my nios board exam date for paper one is also 11.4.2023  2.30 pm. So my jee exam will be missed. JEE Main 2023 session 2 day 3 shift 2 has ended at 6pm. 

Once JEE Main 2023 gets over, question paper analysis and unofficial answer key will be released.

The JEE Main 2023 exam timing is 9 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 6 pm.

The IIT JEE Main session 2 admit card for B Arch will be made live on jeemain.nta.nic.in 2023 link.

The overall difficulty of JEE Main April 10 shift 1 was easy to moderate. Mathematics was the most difficult subject to attempt out of all three subjects. The order of difficulty in different subjects- as assessed by experts is Mathematics > Chemistry > Physics.

• In Physics, questions had an approximately equal weightage from Class 11th and Class 12th syllabus.
• In Chemistry, majorly questions were from the Class 12th syllabus.
• In Mathematics, majorly questions were from the Class 11th syllabus.
• Overall the questions distribution was dominated by Class 12th syllabus.

• Physics was rated as easy on the difficulty level. It consisted mostly of easy and moderate questions. Questions were evenly distributed among all units and most of the questions were NCERT based.
• Chemistry was rated as easy to moderate on difficulty level. More weightage was given to Physical Chemistry compared to Inorganic Chemistry and Organic Chemistry.
• Mathematics was rated as moderate to difficult. Questions were asked from all chapters. Emphasis was on Algebra and Calculus.

The NTA said that if a candidate indulges in unfair means or cheating, they will be booked under the UNFAIR MEANS (UFM) case and may be debarred for three years in the future. The candidate “shall also be liable for criminal action and /or any other action as deemed fit.”

After April 10, NTA will conduct the JEE main session 2 exams 2023 on April 12, 2023.

• All pages of the JEE Mains 2023 admit card clearly printed on A4 size sheets
• The self-declaration form/undertaking / proforma for printed on A4 size sheet, duly filled
• Valid photo ID proof
• A ball point pen
• Copy of same photograph that was used in the application form
• PwD certificate (if any)

• Candidates taking the exams starting today will not be permitted to carry any metallic objects to the exam centre. They should also avoid wearing any kind of jewellery and ornaments. They will not be allowed to wear any electronic watches.
• Applicants who wear Kara or Kirpan due to religious reasons have to report to the exam centre an hour before the gate closing time and intimate the officials
• Candidates cannot cover their heads with cap, dupatta, etc unless it is a customary dress for which they have prior permission.

To be eligible for JEE Main 2023 session 2, candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% marks (65% for SC or ST category) or be in the top 20 percentile in Class 12.

• Questions were asked from all chapters with emphasis on Chapters of Algebra and Coordinate Geometry. 
• Questions asked from Matrices, Determinants, Vectors, 3 D Geometry, Straight Line, Parabola, Circle, Binomial Theorem, Progressions, Mathematical Reasoning, Statistics, Complex Numbers, Definite Integrals, Differential Equations.  
• The Numerical Section had few lengthy calculations but were easy.

• Easy level. 
• Questions asked from Gravitation, EM Waves, Wave Optics, Ray Optics, Electrostatics, Magnetism & Matter, Current Electricity & Modern Physics, Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work Power Energy, Heat & Thermodynamics, Semi-Conductors, Communication Systems.  
• MCQs were relatively easy. 
• Some assertion reasoning questions were also asked. 
• Overall a Balanced section.

Physics- The Physics section had questions from Mechanics, Electrostatics, Optics and Modern physics. There was one question from thermodynamics and waves.

Chemistry- In Chemistry one question was from chromatography. The questions from organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry dominated more than physical chemistry. There was also one question each of polymers and biomolecules and chemistry in everyday life.

Mathematics- In the Mathematics section, there was more domination of coordinate geometry and calculus. One question was from mathematical reasoning and statistics.

Analysing the JEE Main 2023 paper as not tough on a good side, Saurabh Kumar, Chief Academics Officer (CAO), Vidyamandir Classes (VMC) said students are not stressed after taking the exam.

The JEE Main 2023 exam time duration is three hours.

The JEE Main 2023 first attempt was held in January 2023. The exam was conducted on January 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, 31 and February 1, 2023.

All the candidates must simultaneously fulfil each and every one of the following five criteria to appear for JEE Advanced 2023.

• Candidates should be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in bachelor of engineering (BE) or bachelor of technology (BTech) paper of JEE (Main) 2023.
• Candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1998.
• The candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
• A candidate should have appeared for the class 12 or equivalent examination for the first time in either 2022 or 2023 with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects.
• A candidate should not have been admitted to an IIT irrespective of whether or not the candidate continued in the program or accepted a seat at an IIT by reporting online in the past.

As per the JEE Main 2023 exam pattern, the paper 1, or BE and BTech exam will be held for 300 marks and the paper 2, or the BArch and BPlanning papers will be held for 400 marks.

The JEE Main 2023 exam timing today is 9 am to 12 noon.

Entry to the JEE Main 2023 exam hall will close at 8:30 am.

These are the things a candidate should carry to the exam centre:

• Print copy of the JEE Main 2023 admit card along with self-declaration downloaded from the NTA Website in a clear printout on A4 size paper) duly filled in.
• One passport-size photograph same as uploaded on the JEE Main online application form for pasting on the specific space in the Attendance Sheet at Centre during the examination.
• Any one of the authorized photo IDs in original, valid, and non-expired) – school identity card, PAN card, driving license, voter ID, passport, aadhaar card with photograph, e-aadhaar with photograph or ration card with photograph or Class 12 board exam admit card with photograph or bank passbook with photograph.
• PwD certificate issued by the authorized medical officer, if claiming the relaxation under PwD category or PwD Certificate regarding physical limitation in an examination to write as per Annexures given in Information Bulletin, if claiming the relaxation under PwD category.
• A simple transparent ball point pen -- blue or back

As per the jee main nta.nic.in admit card guidelines, candidates appearing for the shift 1 exam will have to reach the exam centre by 8:30 am.

JEE Main 2023 Exam Timing (jeemain.nta.nic.in)

• All candidates will have to report by 8 am at the exam centre.
• Examinees will be required to carry a hard copy of the JEE admit card and a valid government-issued photo ID proof for verification purposes.
• No candidate should carry prohibited items to the exam hall, which include books, notebooks, mobile phones, earphones, tablets, bluetooth devices, speakers etc.
• Malpractices such as cheating, copying etc shall invite cancellation of candidature.
• Candidates will only be allowed to leave the exam centre after the exam concludes.
• Strict adherence to Covid-appropriate behaviour is a must at all times at the exam centre.

The JEE Main 2023 exam date session 2 are April 6 to April 15. The JEE Main exams will be held in two slots every day.

JEE Main 2023 information bulletin reads, "For appearing in the JEE (Main) - 2023, there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed the class 12/equivalent examination in 2021, 2022, or appearing in 2023 irrespective of their age can appear in JEE (Main) - 2023 examination. However, the candidates may be required to fulfill the age criteria of the Institute(s) to which they are desirous of taking admission." 

According to JEE Main 2023 marking scheme, candidates will get 4 marks for each correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for wrong answer. 

JEE Main 2023 exam paper 1 will be held for physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Each section will carry 100 marks and the exam will be of 300 marks in total. 

JEE Main 2023 session 2 first shift will begin from 9am and end at 12noon and second shift will start from 3pm and get over at 6pm. 

JEE Main 2023 session 2 mathematics paper has 16 units, physics paper has 21, and chemistry has 28 units.
