Most of the questions in the April 4 shift 2 were formula-based, direct, and from the NCERT textbooks
According to the students' reactions, the physics section took around 40-45 minutes without much difficulty, while the Maths section was "lengthier and time-consuming" than the other sections.
Since the paper was relatively “easy to moderate”, the higher percentile will be for lower marks than that of the "easy" difficulty level papers, say experts.
JEE Mains 2026 April 4 shift 2 overall analysis
According to the subject experts, the maths section was “easier” as compared to the physics and chemistry sections. Students needed a strong conceptual understanding to solve questions in the April 4 shift 2 exam, rather than relying only on formulas.
The overall difficulty level, subject-wise, was:
Mathematics > Physics ≈ Chemistry
NTA JEE Mains 2026: Shift 2 subject-wise analysis
JEE Mains 2026 April 4 shift 2 paper was easy as compared to the shift 2 paper. As per some experts, mathematics was the most challenging section, while Physics and Chemistry were of similar and relatively easier difficulty.
The inorganic chemistry section had questions directly from the NCERT. Overall weightage for the chemistry topic was as follows:
Inorganic>physical ~organic
Whereas the physics section was easy compared to the maths and chemistry. Most of the questions were easy compared to maths and chemistry.

As per NTA, more than 11 lakh students are appearing for JEE Mains 2026 session 2 exams in India and abroad. Only the top 2.5 lakh JEE qualified aspirants will be eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced 2026 exam on May 17.
