JEE Main 2026: Closing ranks for AI, ML, data science at NITs highlight rising demand

As per NTA, more than 11.23 candidates will appear for JEE Mains 2026 April session exams.

To be eligible for the JEE Advanced 2026 examination, candidates must first appear for the JEE Main exam and secure the required cutoff score.

Applicants should have been born on or after October 1, 2001. However, candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories are granted a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit, meaning they must have been born on or after October 1, 1996.

In the previous year, a total of 2,50,236 candidates qualified for the JEE Advanced examination.

IIT Roorkee will hold JEE Advanced 2026 exam on May 17, comprising two separate papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, each for 3 hours, for a duration of 6 hours. Only top 2.5 JEE aspirants will be able to appear for the Advanced exam.

As per the students' reaction and subject experts, the JEE Mains 2026 difficulty for both the shifts on April 2 was as follows.

• Shift 1: Mathematics > Physics > Chemistry

NTA will hold JEE Main 2026 exams on April 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 in two shifts.

The JEE Mains 2026 BTech paper includes Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with multiple-choice and numerical-based questions.

The JEE Main 2026 session 2 day 2 will be conducted in two shifts, with the morning session from 9 am to 12 pm and the afternoon session from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The NTA will conduct the JEE Mains 2026 session 2 day 2 tomorrow, April 3. Over 10 lakh candidates appeared for JEE Mains 2026 session 1 of which only 12 secured 100 percentile.

Candidates can access and download the JEE Mains 2026 session 2 admit card exams through the NTA's official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Although there is no fixed dress code, candidates are advised to wear simple and comfortable clothes without any metal accessories. Items such as jewellery, thick-soled shoes, scarves, or stoles should be avoided. Those appearing in colder regions may wear light jackets, which will be subject to checking.

Biometric verification will be carried out at entry and after any bio-break during the exam. PwD candidates who have opted for a scribe will be given compensatory time. After the exam, candidates must drop their hall ticket in the designated drop box; failure to do so may result in their answers not being evaluated.

Candidates appearing for JEE Main 2026 can follow these steps to access their admit card:

• Go to the official website: jeemain.nta.nic.in
• Click on the link for “JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Admit Card”
• Enter your application number and password or date of birth
• Fill in the security pin and submit
• The admit card will be displayed on the screen
• Verify all details carefully, including name, exam centre, and timings
• Download and save a copy of the admit card
• Take a clear printout for use on the exam day

Candidates must arrive at the examination centre well before the gate closing time. Those who did not use Aadhaar during registration are advised to report at least one hour in advance for biometric verification.

Once frisking and registration are completed, candidates will be guided to their assigned computer systems. It is mandatory to take the allotted seat before the exam starts to avoid any inconvenience.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced advanced security measures, including AI-powered face recognition, OTP-based Aadhaar authentication, and real-time photo verification to curb malpractice during the exam.

The JEE Main 2026 Session 2 exam will held entirely computer-based test (CBT) mode for all papers, except for the B.Arch drawing section, which is likely to be administered offline.

Candidates appearing for Shift 2 of JEE Main 2026 must bring essential documents to the exam centre, including their admit card, a valid photo ID proof, and two passport-size photographs.

The exam duration is three hours. According to NTA’s marking scheme, each correct answer awards 4 marks, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect response.

Each subject—Physic, Chemistry, and Mathematics—has 25 questions in JEE Main 2026, comprising both multiple-choice and numerical-type questions.

Candidates are strictly prohibited from carrying electronic devices such as mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, or any Bluetooth-enabled gadgets inside the examination hall.
