JKSA appeals to Amit Shah to intervene in DBU admission scandal; FIR filed against chancellor

DBU: FIRs registered against the students will be withdrawn and those responsible for assaulting students will be arrested, Punjab CM’s advisor informed.
NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has urged the Union home minister Amit Shah for an urgent for intervention on the assault of Kashmiri students and admission scandal at Desh Bhagat University Punjab. The students group said that the Punjab chief minister’s advisor has informed that an FIR has been registered against the Desh Bhagat chancellor, vice-president and 15 others.
Additionally, the FIRs registered against the students will be withdrawn and those responsible for assaulting protesting students will be arrested soon, the CM’s advisor informed JKSA.
“Recently, there has been a distressing incident involving the assault and lathi-charge on Kashmiri students, which further exacerbates the urgency of our appeal,” the students group wrote in the letter.
They informed Amit Shah about the unilateral decision taken by the university to transfer approximately 70 Kashmiri students enrolled in various paramedical courses to Sardar Lal Singh College without their consent or will. The university has been taking such actions since last year.
Sardar Lal Singh College lacks approval from the INC (Indian Nursing Council) and PNRC (Punjab Nursing Registration Council), it pointed out.

The students have been protesting for the past four-five days. On September 14, while peacefully protesting, female students and Kashmiri students faced lathi-charge and were “confined within a university building to silence their voices against this unjust decision”. They suffered serious injuries.
Condemning the assault on students, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti urged the Punjab CM to look into the matter and said such actions will “alienate Kashmiri students further”.
JKSA said: “We have been informed by the Chief Minister's Media Advisor that, following the intervention of the Punjab Chief Minister, an FIR has been registered against the Chancellor, Owner, Vice President, Director, Security In-Charge, Medical Staff, and 15 others under IPC sections 420, 406, 354-B, 323, 341, 427, 506, 148, and 149. Additionally, FIRs registered against the students will be withdrawn, and those responsible for attacking the students will be arrested soon.”
