JMI to conduct online exam, scraps offline exams in July

NEW DELHI : Jamia Millia Islamia University will conduct the end-semester examination for the final year students in online mode.

On June 8, the Standing Academic Council of the university decided to scrap the offline mode of the exam as it “may further compromise the well-being of the students” coming from different states.

Following the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission , the final year students will be assessed on the basis of online examination as deemed fit by the teachers.

The university has also given different options in the form of assignments, dissertation or viva for the evaluation of students. Practical exams will also be conducted remotely for such students.

For the rest of the students, the university will not conduct face-to-face or an open book exam, an official circular said. However, practical exams will be conducted for the students studying in intermediate semesters.

Online exam

“The even semester/year-end examination is being conducted on the basis of online examination/assignments as per UGC guidelines. Under these rules, no request for redressal/re-evaluation shall be admissible to the students appearing in even semester/year final exams,” the circular added.

Students with backlogs will be allowed to appear in a “special examination” which is scheduled to be conducted in September or October. All students who did not appear for the exams due to disruptions can also appear for the special examination.

The details of the special examination are yet to be announced by the authorities.

As per the official circular, the teachers have been directed to evaluate students on the basis of internal assessment, practical exam and the assignments submitted by the students.

The teachers are required to upload the marks of the student in the examination portal by June 20.

For the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, the university has directed to continue online classes without vacation break till the whole course is satisfactorily over. The online exam will be conducted subsequently for the concerned students.
