NEW DELHI: Ajay Kumar Dubey resigned from the post of rector of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). His resignation comes days after a scuffle between students and members of security staff demanding the release of pending students' fellowships

“Professor Ajay Kumar Dubey has resigned from the post of Rector of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the same has been accepted by the competent authority,” the university said.

According to a statement issued by the ABVP, "Rector had orchestrated deadly attack on students demanding their fellowship, harassed female colleague and was involved in running NGOs illegally."

"Our Satyagraha has entered 20th day and will continue until Adminstration resolves students issues," it added.

Last week, an Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) delegation met Union Minister Jitendra Singh and JNU Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit and demanded the suspension of Rector Ajay Dubey.

The members of the ABVP accused the JNU administration of carrying out an attack on them while the administration held students responsible for the incident. Following the incident, two FIRs were also registered by the Delhi Police.

Earlier this month, a section of JNU teachers alleged that rector Ajay Kumar Dubey is running two NGOs from his university address in violation of rules. However, the accusation was rejected by Ajay Dubey.
