Former Pondicherry University vice-chancellor Gurmeet Singh’s extended tenure ended on November 23, 2023.

NEW DELHI: The senior most director of Pondicherry University K Tharanikkarasu has assumed the charge of vice-chancellor (VC in-charge). He took charge after former VC Gurmeet Singh’s extended tenure ended on November 23, 2023.
Singh’s tenure started on November 29, 2017. He was a renowned academic administrator and an internationally reputed expert in the field of corrosion science and smart materials. He acknowledged and thanked the statutory officers, faculty members, staff, students and all the stake-holders for extending full support during his tenure as vice-chancellor.
Tharanikkarasu was the head of chemistry department, Pondicherry University, from 2015 to 2018. During this period, he also served as registrar (i/c) and controller of examination (i/c) for about 9 months and 1 year and 8 months, respectively.
The Pondicherry University has also started the process to appoint the new VC. The university’s executive council in its meeting held on November 22 nominated two nominees for constituting the search panel for appointment of the new VC. The panel has been set up as per the Pondicherry University Act and Statutes.

The advertisement calling for applications for the vacant post of Vice-Chancellor will be released very soon, the university said. The Pondicherry university was ranked 68th in the National Institution Ranking Framework in 2022.
