Karnataka: Bangalore and Mysore govt medical colleges had highest closing ranks and remained competitive for MD general medicine admissions and NEET PG round 1 admissions

In the last academic year, BMCRI Bangalore recorded the highest closing rank for MD general medicine at rank 7, while MMCRI Mysore closed at rank 145 for MD radiology programme. Notably, according to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), Karnataka has the highest number of postgraduate seats offered. NEET PG Result 2026 Live Updates
The health minister, J. P. Nadda, told in Lok Sabha that there are 86,360 PG medical seats across the country, with Karnataka comprising most of them. Also, the Centre has approved around 5,000 additional medical seats by academic year 2028-29.
Furthermore, in NEET PG round 1 admissions, Bangalore and Mysore medical colleges remained the top choice for MD admissions. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts centralised online seat allotment for postgraduate medical and dental courses such as MD, MS, and diploma in India.

Karnataka NEET closing ranks for government medical colleges
According to last year’s Karnataka NEET PG counselling closing ranks for general merit candidates, the MD radiodiagnosis programme opened admissions at rank 50 and closed at rank 134 in round 1 counselling. MD radiodiagnosis is the most chosen course for admissions in medical colleges.

NBEMS has declared NEET PG 2026 results for more than 2.65 lakh candidates. This year, for the first time, NBEMS will release the NEET PG answer keys on or after October 1. Individual scorecards will be released on or after October 1. The counselling schedule will be released soon on mcc.nic.in.
