KEAM 2018 Exam Starts

NEW DELHI, APRIL 23: The entrance exam for admission to B.Tech courses in government and self-financed engineering colleges in Kerala, KEAM 2018 started today at 10 am. On day 1 of the two-day exam, paper I – which includes Chemistry and Physics subjects – is being conducted. The test for Mathematics or paper II will be conducted on April 24. The state-level entrance exam is being conducted at 352 centres across 14 districts in Kerala. Most of the centres are government and aided schools and colleges. Outside the state, the exam is also conducted in Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai, with each having one centre. A total of 104,102 are appearing this year in KEAM.

To ensure smooth conduct of the exam, over 7,000 officials have been deployed, including teachers from government and aided schools, and Education department officials. Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE), Kerala, is the conducting body of the exam.

To appear in the exam, it was mandatory for candidates to bring their admit cards with them. Exam authorities had earlier recommended that candidates take colour printouts of their admit cards for easy identification. No candidate is allowed inside the exam hall without admit cards.

KEAM is conducted in offline mode, with candidates having to enter their responses on OMR sheets. The exam is conducted in two parts or has two papers – paper I and paper II. Each paper is of two and half hours duration and includes 120 multiple choice questions. For a correct attempt, candidate will be awarded 4 marks, while there is a penalty of 1 mark for incorrect attempt.

Declaration of Result

The result of the entrance exam will be declared online on May 25, 2018. Candidates will be able to check their results by logging into the result portal using their application number and password. The result would carry details like name and category of the candidate, roll and application number, and importantly marks obtained by the candidate in the exam and also the qualifying marks.

The qualifying marks are the minimum marks that candidates would have to obtain in each paper to be considered for admission or to move to the next stage of the admission process. The minimum marks set for each paper this year is 10 marks.

But please note that the minimum marks clause doesn’t apply to SC and ST candidates. Candidates belonging to these categories though have to attempt minimum one question in each paper to be eligible.

Publication of Rank List

For preparing the rank list, equal weightage will be given to 10+2 marks and marks obtained in the entrance exam (combined score of paper I and paper II). The rank list would be announced online on June 20, 2018.

Based on the rank list candidates would be shortlisted and called for counselling, which will take place tentatively from the last week of June onwards.
