Kozhikode schools, colleges closed till September 24 in view of Nipah virus: Report
Nipah Virus: All government and private schools, colleges will remain shut due to Nipah virus outbreak but online classes will run.
NEW DELHI: The Kerala government has announced closure of all educational institutions including schools and colleges in Kozhikode district in view of rising cases of Nipah virus till September 24, a report from the Times of India said. However, online classes will run during this time, the report said.
Recently, the district closed all government and private schools and colleges in the containment zones and postponed the exams for the then ongoing literacy mission.
The Kozhikode administration had declared seven village panchayats including Atanchery, Maruthonkara, Tiruvallur, Kuttiyadi, Kayakkodi, Villyapalli, and Kavilumpara - as containment zones of the virus. The administration had announced a lockdown in these containment zones. Only essential services are allowed to function from 7 am to 5 pm.

The National Institute of Virology, Pune confirmed Nipah virus infection in Kozhikode.
Two people died due to the virus infection. Four people were tested for the infection of Nipah virus of which two were positive. Of the total infected, one was a nine-year old boy.
