The Maharashtra government has approved the supernumerary posts with equivalent pay scales for 3,276 contractual employees working under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. It provides relief to staff who have served under the centrally sponsored education programme for more than a decade. The decision was approved through a Government Resolution (GR) issued by the School Education and Sports Department today (on August 4). It applies to contractual employees who had completed 10 years or more of continuous service as of June 30, 2026. However, employees belonging to the technical cadre have been excluded from the decision.

"Persistent follow-up was undertaken to resolve the issue of adjustment of 3,276 contractual employees under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Pay protection, but no pension or promotion benefits
According to the GR, the contractual posts currently held by eligible employees will be matched with equivalent sanctioned regular posts available in the School Education Department or other government departments. The equivalence will be determined by considering the nature of work, duties, responsibilities and recruitment rules applicable to the post.
Employees' salaries will be fixed in accordance with recommendations of 7th pay commission. Their existing salary will be protected, and they will continue to receive admissible dearness allowance (DA) and travelling allowance (TA) along with the prescribed basic pay.

The committee was reconstituted in June 2025 for administrative reasons, and its tenure was extended twice before it submitted its report on November 26, 2025.
Based on the committee's recommendations, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved the proposal at its meeting on July 2, 2026.
