Maharashtra HSC to have MCQs to prepare students ahead of competitive exams

NEW DELHI, NOVEMBER 8 – Starting this year, Class 12 or HSC of Maharashtra Board will consist of multiple choice questions (MCQs) in the board examination. This move is taken to prepare students ahead of the competitive examinations. These compulsory questions will be on the lines of the NEET and JEE entrance exams. These changes will be applicable to students of Science stream in their Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and Mathematics and Statistics question papers to enhance the writing skills of the students so that they can perform better in the aforementioned examinations.

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test exam is an entrance exam for students who wish to take up medical and dental courses while the JEE Main or Joint Entrance Examination Main is for engineering aspirants.

While addressing media, Krishnakumar Patil, additional divisional chairman of the Mumbai division, MSBSHSE, said that this decision was taken for the benefit of students. This will act as an opening lesson for the entrance exam in which students will appear in after class 12th. According to him, the pattern has been changed on the basis of the framework suggested by the Council of Boards of School Education.

As per the new exam pattern released by the Maharashtra State Board, there will 4 MCQs carrying 4 marks (1 mark each) in Physics and Chemistry from the total 70 marks paper. Biology paper, which is a 70 marks paper, will carry MCQs of eight marks (eight questions, one mark each) and the Mathematics & Statistics subjects will carry six MCQs for marks.

Maharashtra Board class 12 or HSC exams are scheduled to be conducted between February 5 and March 20, 2019.
