MBBS fees in Tamil Nadu self-financing colleges touch Rs 1.8 crore; hostel, mess get expensive

Check NowThe Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical Education and Research, selection committee, has extended the last date to register and fill choices for round 1 MBBS, BDS admissions 2025. It has also notified the pre-counselling fee-structure for self-financing medical and dental colleges in the state participating in the TN NEET UG counselling 2025.
As per the latest announcement, the Tamil Nadu MBBS, BDS round 1 counselling has been extended till August 6. Candidates seeking admission to medical courses in Tamil Nadu medical colleges will have to apply, fill preferences, and lock choices by 11 pm on August 6.
A day after processing the application, the Tamil Nadu NEET UG seat allotment result for round 1 will be published on August 8. Candidates who have been allotted seats in round 1 will have to report at the respective college by 5 pm on August 13.
In an effort to curb seat blocking in medical colleges, the Supreme Court had ordered all medical colleges to disclose the fee structure for all courses. Following this, the National Medical Commission ( NMC ) directed all medical colleges to publicly disclose the fee details to ensure transparency.
Accordingly, the self-financing medical and dental colleges in Tamil Nadu have furnished the non-tuition fee structure, detailing hostel, caution deposit and miscellaneous charges.
TN private colleges charging highest MBBS fees
Annapoorana Medical College and Hospitals, Salem charges the highest non-tuition fees of nearly Rs 6 lakh per year. For a five and half year MBBS course, the total fee will be approximately Rs 32 lakh.
Panimalar Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Chennai and Velammal Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Madurai also charge high fees. The tuition fee ranges between Rs 4 - 25 lakh per year, with some private colleges crossing Rs 1 crore for NRI quota.
Earlier, the TN DMER hiked the fees for management and NRI quota in self-financing private medical colleges. The MBBS fees at Tamil Nadu private medical colleges has been increased from Rs 13.5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh for the management quota and from Rs 24.5 lakh to Rs 27 lakh for the NRI quota. For an MBBS course of five years, the total fee will be Rs 75 lakh for management and nearly Rs 1.4 crore for NRI.
As per the revised fee structure, the MBBS fees for management and NRI quota ranges between Rs 1 to Rs 1.8 crore in some private medical colleges like Annapoorna; Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College; Tagore Medical College and Hospital, Chennai; and Velammal Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Madurai.
