‘Auratein Aazad Hai’: Miranda House plans protest march over women's safety after alleged assault on minor

Students of Delhi University’s Miranda House will hold a solidarity march, ‘Auratein Aazad Hai’, to raise concerns about women’s safety, rising cases of violence and crime against women. The march follows the alleged rape of a minor in the south Delhi area.

The protest is open to college students, women and members of the queer community. Participants are requested to assemble at the faculty of arts, gate number 4 at the Miranda House campus, to join the protest.

However, Miranda House students will gather at gate number 7 from 2:30 pm onwards for the solidarity protest. They have also announced a few guidelines to be followed during the march for participants.

Protest march guidelines for women, students

According to an Instagram post by Miranda House students, participants have been advised to carry water/ORS, wear comfortable clothing and footwear, and follow instructions from the organisers and volunteers.

The protest poster also clarified that the march is being independently organised by students and is not affiliated with any political party or organisation.

“Offensive language, slurs, abuses, slogans, or banners that are sexist, misogynistic, casteist, homophobic, transphobic, or discriminatory in any form will not be tolerated. AI-generated media, posters, or other content will not be entertained,” the poster read.

Miranda House Protest: ‘For your safety’ guidelines

Other guidelines and suggestions by Miranda House protest march organisers are listed below.

• Participants may carry a face covering if they are comfortable.
• Participants are advised to avoid carrying or wearing anything that could reveal personal information.
• Carry a water bottle and/or ORS to remain adequately hydrated.
• Wear comfortable clothing and footwear, as the march may involve prolonged walking or standing.
• Participants are requested to remain with their group and follow the instructions issued by the organisers and volunteers.
• Maintain a peaceful and orderly environment throughout the protest.

LSR college

A few days ago, more than a hundred students of Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) organised a protest march rally in response to the incident. Following the incident, the college suspended in-person classes and announced online classes.

Now, another solidarity march has been organised by students of the University of Delhi colleges to raise awareness about women’s safety and measures needed to be taken to improve the situation for women.
