NEW DELHI, JUNE 21: Nagpur University has decided to disaffiliate as many as 98 colleges as they failed to fulfil minimum requirement for teaching staff and infrastructure. The Academic Council of the University has officially approved the disaffiliation after a decision taken by the Vice-Chancellor earlier.
The Vice-Chancellor Dr. S P Kane took the decision using his special powers granted under Section 12(7) of the ‘Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016’. As per the university administration, these 98 colleges were granted enough time to make amends, but despite numerous reminders, they failed to comply.
Last year, the University had identified 109 colleges who had not invited the Local Enquiry Committees (LECs) for affiliation granting inspection. Later, 11 of them responded to the university and sought time to appoint regular teachers and get other areas rectified.
The proposal to disaffiliate the erring colleges was included for official confirmation of the council.
The VC during the meeting clarified that the proposal to disaffiliate 98 colleges was tabled just for formality, as the decision had already been taken by the university administration.
A large number of disaffiliated colleges are also part of ‘250 colleges’ blacklisted by the university earlier from admitting students.
