Three IIT professors chosen for National Awards to Teachers 2024
NAT 2024 list also includes one each from IISER and BHU. Awardees will get Rs 50,000 and silver medals.

NEW DELHI : A total of 16 professors and researchers have been selected for the National Awards to Teachers 2024 for higher education. The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education has released the list of selected teachers who will be awarded on the occasion of Teachers’ Day 2024 on September 5. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards.
Among the NAT 2024 awardees, three are from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) including IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, and IIT Indore, and one is from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune. Two professors have been selected from polytechnic institutes. One professor from the Banaras Hindu University is also on the list of selected teachers.
“The selection is based on the performance of the teacher as adjudged against the parameters such as Teaching Learning Effectiveness, Outreach activities, Research and Innovation, Sponsored Research/ Faculty Development Programs/ Consultancy Teaching. Of the above, Learning Effectiveness & Outreach activities has the preponderant weightage,” said an official statement from MoE.
Last year, the education ministry decided to divide the awards into two categories by introducing a new one for teachers of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnic institutes. The major categories – category 1 for HEIs and category 2 for polytechnic institutions – are further divided into subcategories.
