NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated the National Science Day on the theme ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’. The webinar event conducted by the School of Sciences of IGNOU was addressed by Subhas Sarkar, Union minister of state for education and presided over by Nageshwar Rao, the vice-chancellor of IGNOU. Sarkar lauded IGNOU for its efforts to promote scientific talent by providing quality science education.

During the webinar, Sarkar pointed out that CV Raman, a renowned Indian physicist on whose behalf the science day is celebrated, made his discovery in a laboratory with fewer facilities compared to what is available commonly today. He further said that science day should not be just about the discovery of the Raman effect but it should inspire to think of all the names associated with science and technology such as Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, Shri Homi Jehangir Bhabha, Satyendra Nath Bose, Meghnad Saha, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Vikram Sarabhai, APJ Abdul Kalam, among others. He further emphasised on Indian scientific tradition and its contribution to various fields such as mathematics, ayurveda, literature, economics, engineering, astronomy, and human values.
