NBEMS directs DNB, diploma trainees to complete OPJR joining, self-appraisal process by April 9

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has issued a notice directing Diplomate in National Board (DNB) candidates admitted to NBEMS diploma and post-MBBS DNB broad specialty courses in the 2025 admission session to complete their joining formalities and self-appraisal through the Online Portal for Joining and Registration (OPJR).

In the announcement, NBEMS stated that all candidates who have joined seats allotted through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), as well as those admitted under the in-service quota by state governments, railways, Public Sector Undertaking (PSU)s, or Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), must update their joining status on the OPJR. The directive also applies to all NBEMS-accredited hospitals responsible for verifying candidate details.

The board said that the OPJR portal will go live from March 9. Trainees have been given time until April 9, to complete their part of the process, while hospitals must finalise verification by April 30.

NBEMS: OPJR Joining Mandatory for 2025 Trainees

As per the notice, trainees are required to complete joining formalities on the portal, submit a self-appraisal form, and ensure that the concerned hospital uploads the joining report. The hospital must then verify the trainee’s self-appraisal and confirm allotment details, where applicable. NBEMS clarified that the self-appraisal process is essential to determine eligibility for registration as a trainee, strictly in accordance with the criteria outlined in the relevant information bulletin.

Key steps in the process include:

• Completion of joining formalities by the trainee on OPJR

• Upload of the joining report (Annexure-A) by the hospital

• Submission of the self-appraisal form by the trainee

• Careful verification of the self-appraisal and documents by the hospital

The Board has placed responsibility on accredited hospitals to verify original documents. In cases where a candidate has taken admission under a reserved category (SC,ST,OBC,EWS), the hospital must verify the original and valid caste,category certificate as per MCC guidelines before allowing the candidate to join.

NBEMS also clarified special provisions for in-service candidates. For those admitted under the state quota or employed with a government organisation, NBEMS training will begin only after the candidate is formally relieved from their parent organisation. Any training undertaken before such official relief will not be counted and will be treated as null and void.

Upon successful submission and verification, candidates will receive a letter of provisional registration. However, NBEMS emphasised that such registration is purely provisional and subject to further verification. Any discrepancies or misrepresentation in the self-appraisal may lead to termination of candidature.

The Board further clarified that NBEMS training must commence within the counselling reporting window, and no extension of joining date will be permitted without prior approval.
