Ghost Faculty Row: NCISM bars 457 more teachers from Ayurveda colleges

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), ministry of AYUSH, has barred 457 more teachers for one year across Ayurveda colleges in the country. The commission has directed ‘strict’ compliance with the directions, failing which action will be taken as per the regulations.

NCSIM earlier notified that 142 teachers in 10 Ayurveda institutes have been barred after records revealed individuals appointed as teachers but weren't working. Notably, a total of 599 teachers have been restricted from their duties for a duration of one year.

Ayurveda teachers from Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat have been barred from their duties.

NCISM bars Ayurveda college teachers from duty

According to the official NCISM notice, the Ayurveda colleges are not allowed to include the faculty member in their staff records or use their names to meet requirements when seeking permissions or approvals from medical councils, as long as the restriction is in effect.

“The institutions are advised to ensure strict compliance with the directions of MARBISM/NCISM. Any deviation or non-compliance shall be viewed seriously and dealt with in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations,” the NCISM notice said.

Even if the listed institutes claim that the faculty member has gained teaching experience during the restricted period, their experience will not be counted. The PDF list of barred teachers can be accessed from the NCISM’s official website at ncismindia.org.
